Danny's Blog - August 2011

One year to go.......so what does that mean to me?  To be honest, not too much.....whether 18 months to go, 12 or 6, I am still working to a training programme which has been drawn up between myself and my coach, with input from many others that support me in other ways.

My support team seems to get wider by the week, and includes an array of people, from my coach to physio, soft tissue therapist to nutritionalist, performance lifestyle manager to sports psychologist, strength and conditioning personal trainer, EXF Fitness in Woodbridge who are designing my new throwing frame to the staff and students at Easton College who have created a throws area for me, meaning I no longer have to travel to London for every technical session.

And that really is the tip of the iceberg....and I would definitely include the sponsorship team at Aviva for their ongoing support for my sabbatical and the flexibility I have been given to allow me to train and compete to this level.

But obviously '1 year to go' is a significant landmark as the Olympics and Paralympics head to London.  Tickets for the Olympics have now been allocated, and the Paralympic tickets go on sale on the 9th September...and I would urge everybody to seriously consider going along.  The crowds in Beijing in 2008 really did set a new standard of support for the Paralympic Games, and I am sure that London will offer a similar level of support, and I am sure it will only help Team GB and the performances of all athletes.

I am now going to sign off, having to go to my second training session of the day, and then an early morning throws session tomorrow before physio and sports massage in London at the English Institute of Sport at Lee Valley, North London, tomorrow afternoon.  But with only a year to go, every session is critical.......!
