Meet our athletes

Holly Bleasdale

Holly Bleasdale - Pole Vault

Do you have any superstitions and why? I don’t really have any superstitions, but when I compete I don’t like having bands on my wrist or anything like that.
What would you be if you weren't an athlete and why? I would be a physio or maybe a P.E. teacher, definitely something in sport.
Tell us about your roommate: Helen Clitheroe, it’s working well because she obviously has the experience and I am new, so it is a good balance.

James Shane

James Shane - 1500m

Do you have any superstitions and why? I always eat half a jam sandwich an hour and half before a race. I’ve been doing it for years and I’ll do it at the World Championships too.
What would you be if you weren't an athlete and why? A primary school teacher as I am studying to be one at university now.
Tell us about your roommate: Andrew Osagie, we go back a long way from Essex Schools.  He’s a good laugh and doesn’t have any bad habits that I have seen.

Jeanette Kwakye training

Jeanette Kwakye - 100m, 4x100m

Do you have any superstitions and why? I don’t believe in superstitions. I walk under ladders, talk to black cats that cross me and all sorts.
What would you be if you weren't an athlete and why? I would probably be in the media, something behind the scenes like a producer, maybe on the radio.
Tell us about your roommate: My roommate is Abi Oyepitan. She is very funny, incredibly messy and screeches. She also purrs in her sleep.

Phillips Idowu

Phillips Idowu - Triple Jump

Do you have any superstitions and why? I don't have any really. I have had red hair for all of my titles, but that's not a superstition really.
What would you be if you weren't an athlete and why? I'd have loved to be a basketball player.
Tell us about your roommate: I have the best roommate out here, me and Mr Ipad.

Tiffany Ofili

Tiffany Porter - 100m Hurdles, 4x100m Hurdles

Do you have any superstitions and why? I always pray before a race.
What would you be if you weren't an athlete and why? I’d be a pharmacist as that is what I am studying, but I also enjoy hair and make-up, so something like that would be good too.
Tell us about your roommate: Yamile Adama, she’s a lovely girl. I hadn’t met her before, but we’re getting on well.
